Chris Mortensen

Is a seasoned performer, with many years of experience. He started playing bass guitar as a thirteen year old, in his older brother’s band.
Chris has been playing ever since, performing rock, pop, jazz, blues, country, western, and Celtic music. In 1989, his band “Diamondback” won the True Value Country Showdown for the state of Utah. Chris’ bands have shared the stage with many top country acts, such as Waylon Jennings, Sawyer Brown, Rodney Crowell, and Chris LeDoux.

He currently plays solo at cowboy gatherings; and sometimes as a duo, “Saddle Serenade”, with Mary Jo Hansen. Chris also plays guitar and bass with the “Sagwitch  Basin Band”, and as a sideman on bass with the renowned Celtic band “Leaping Lulu”.

He is a prolific songwriter, having penned over 50 original songs, to date. His newest CD, titled “Highway 89” should be ready just in time for the Cache Valley Cowboy Rendezvous.

His poem “Upon My Horse’s Back” recently won third place in the western poetry division of the Utah League of Writers annual contest.
